Polymer Clay Pod & Leaf Pin "Thing a Day" Day 10

I have been looking for creative ways to use my over reduced canes. With this one I reduced it even further then held the ends and twisted the cane and sliced lengthwise. I then dug though my scrap sheets, found a background I liked and made the pod. After I sanded and buffed I added the coiled wire in the center of the pod and used the end of the wire to form the leaf and swirl. I filled the leaf with woven wire and Swarovski bicone crystal beads.

Not all of the over reduced canes end up this well but I'm pleased with this one. I'm working on a couple more that I will show you tomorrow.

  1. What a creative and lovely way to use that cane. Lots of visual interest but works so well as a whole. The wirework fits in so beautifully. BRAVA, I appreciate your eye!

  2. Okay that's it! I am going to go and twist all my canes and slice lengthwise, too, and see if I come up with anything like this. It's GREAT!!

  4. Thank you Anita, I appreciate the kind words.

LOL Jackie... twist away my friend, it's a great way to use old yucky canes... but I bet you don't have yucky canes... you are a true cane artist!!

Thank you Melissa.... tis my muse, sometimes she is brilliant and sometimes she's a little tipsy.

  5. I love your 'pod thing'! Excellent use of over reduced canes. The number of times I have 'over reduced' my canes is staggering. Reducing is just so much fun, that it is hard to know when to quit!
